Allied Commitments and Public Support for Military Interventions: A Cross-National Experiment

Using a preregistered cross-national survey experiment (N = 7,200) in six countries, we show that alliance commitments increase public support for military intervention, but this effect is significantly weaker in non-Western, non-NATO states. Moral obligation and reputational concerns help explain these patterns. Find our pre-print here.
